Consultation and Solutions

Your skin is your largest organ. Your skin is thinnest and it’s most vulnerable around the eyes and lips, just where you don’t need it to be! Men's skin is a fraction thicker than women's and is therefore a little more robust. However whatever your gender or skin type a decent skin care regime will keep your skin healthy and clear.

See below the different skin types for which we have some simple solutions you may find quite effective!

Oily Skin and Enlarged Pores
Oily skin can be the result of increased secretion of the sebaceous glands and has a greasy shine, especially on the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). Oily skin is prone to open pores, blackheads and breakouts.

Solution: IPL can refine open pores and make them appear less noticeable. Avoid using harsh products which can strip the skin of its natural moisture as the skin will compensate for this by producing more oil. Try SkinCeuticals foaming cleanser and equalizing toner – which is a refreshing toner for oily/combination skin.

Dry Skin
Dry skin is a result from a lack of water content on the outermost layer of the skin. Dry skin may feel tight and may be rough and itchy. Dry skin can commonly occur in the winter time and can be made worse by frequent washing with hot water and drying cleansers. Generally dry skin can feel taught and uncomfortable.

Solution: It is important to keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water and using skin hydrating products. Hydrating B5 Gel contains hyaluronic acid which is a natural humectant and has the ability to attract 1,000 times its weight in moisture onto the skin. For excessively dry skin use Hydrating B5 Gel in conjunction with Skinceuticals Emollience or SkinCeuticals face cream.

Sensitive Skin:
It is not totally clear what causes sensitive skin. However If your skin reacts easily to anything you put on it, then the chances are you have sensitive skin. This skin type may also have a tendency to go red when touched, exposed to heat or to the sun and you might find that certain foods or fragrances will cause a rash or make your skin itch.

Solution: For extremely sensitive skin always try to select products designed for sensitive skin. As this is something that needs individual attention we recommend you call and arrange an appointment at our Advanced Skin Care Clinic. Here we will analyse your skin and treat common symptoms of sensitive skin like broken capillaries. In the meantime, ensure that you are not using any harsh cleansers and use milder, kinder cleansers and moisturisers like SkinCeuticals simply clean. It is important with sensitive skin that we help you find the right solution. At our clinics we will provide you with a skin consultation and provide you with samples to try out on your skin.

Broken Capillaries:
You need to avoid extremes in temperature, spicy foods, alcohol, as these can all exacerbate the condition. We have found that IPL skin rejuvenation treatments helps reduce the appearance of broken capillaries.

Hyperpigmentation/Melasma
Free radicals stimulate pigment formation in the dermal layer of the skin. This appears as darker patches on the face and is a combination of hormonal activities and exposure to sunlight.

Solution: Phyto Plus, Retinol and any of the SkinCeutical Vitamin C Serums are highly effective for lightening pigmentation. We also recommend a course of IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment which will gradually lighten pigmentation leaving the skin much more even in tone. Using Peels in conjunction with the IPL will help achieve much better results.

Acne
Acne is an inflammatory skin disease which affects the tiny pores which cover the face, arms, back and chest and the oil glands attached to them. It is an abnormal response in the skin to normal levels of the male hormone, testosterone, in the blood. Both men and women have testosterone circulating in the blood, but in the acne sufferer, this hormone has a profound effect on the skin.

Solution: Skin needs to be cleansed twice a day with a mild cleanser like simply clean, citrus cleanser or purity clean. These are light exfoliating gel cleansers used to clarify the skin. Some products which can be helpful for this condition are the clarifying mask which dries out spots, retinol which due to its exfoliating nature corrects blemishes and blotches minimising pore size. Chirally correct and totally organic CosMedix clarity serum for acne, Clarifying Mask and Phytoclear Clarifying Moisturiser are also proving to be highly successful with acne prone skin types.

A highly effective way to deal with acne is from the inside out - Cosmedix Greens and Colon Cleanse can be taken separately or can be mixed together and drunk with plenty of water. (Please make sure you drink this with 2/3 glasses of water.)

We also recommend that you visit us for an I-Clear treatment: This blue healing light has an anti microbial effect on the skin. It is a non evasive treatment found to be very effective on acne prone skin.

Rosacea
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by one or more of the following: recurrent episodes of facial flushing, persistent redness (erythema), dilated blood vessels (telangiectasia), papules and pustules.

Solution: This is very effectively treated with a course of IPL Photo Rejuvenation. This treatment will decrease pore size and reduce redness.

We recommend you use an SPF of at least 20 as it contains the all important zinc oxide which is anti microbial. This reflects heat and lessens skin temperature which is very useful for rosacea sufferers. Try physical block which as well as the zinc oxide, it contains green tea and is anti inflammatory. For a moisturiser try SkinCeuticals Face Cream or Firming Cream as both are anti inflammatory. Phyto Corrective and any of the recommended acne solutions are helpful for rosacea prone skin.
